Therapy that makes room for the whole story.
Hi, I’m Jamie Hoffman, Registered Associate Marriage and Family Therapist, #159704. I work with children, parents, couples, and individuals in Los Angeles and online throughout California.
About
I’m a Registered Associate Marriage and Family Therapist working with individuals, couples, and children experiencing OCD, anxiety disorders, life transitions, and hoarding behaviors. I aim to create a space where you feel supported, not judged.
I believe therapy can be a place to slow down, feel understood, and make sense of patterns that may no longer be serving you. My approach is collaborative and grounded in the belief that you know yourself and your family best, and that meaningful change can happen when we create space for both understanding and practical steps forward.
Who I work with
-
Individuals
I provide therapy that is supportive and tailored to your unique needs. We can dive into emotions or dive into action. I meet you where you are and help you connect with your values. Our work might include mindfulness, art, practical tools like body doubling, or strategies for managing overwhelm and creating meaningful change.
-
Couples
You are on the same team, even when it may not feel that way. I’ll work alongside you to develop open communication, better understand the patterns and dynamics within your relationship, and create space for greater empathy and perspective. Together, we’ll explore what’s getting in the way of connection and find a path forward that feels right for both of you.
-
Children
With children, I incorporate art and play-based interventions to help them express emotions, build emotional tolerance, and feel understood. I’ll work alongside your child to create a space where they feel supported, not judged. I’ll also work collaboratively with you, the caregiver, to better understand your child’s needs and develop ways you can support your child outside of therapy.

How I work
My approach is integrative and eclectic, drawing primarily from Narrative Therapy, Family systems, CBT, ERP, ACT and Solution-Focused Therapy. I use a narrative lens to help clients explore the stories and beliefs they have developed about themselves and their relationships, while looking at family patterns and dynamics from the past that may influence the present.
Depending on your needs, we may also incorporate practical, skills-based tools to help you manage anxiety, strengthen relationships, and move toward the changes that matter to you.
-
Narrative Therapy
Looking at the stories you carry about yourself, and what becomes possible when they are told differently.
-
Bowen Family Systems
Tracing the family patterns that shape how you relate now, often without anyone naming them.
-
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
Practical tools for the thoughts and habits that keep anxiety and avoidance in place.
-
Solution-Focused Therapy
Starting from what is already working and building deliberately from there.
-
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
Creating space for unhelpful thoughts and patterns, so you can make choices that move you toward your values and what matters most to you.
-
Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP)
Breaking the OCD cycle by facing your thoughts and feelings while learning you can tolerate discomfort without relying on compulsions or avoidance.

Questions
What does “Registered Associate” mean?
I have completed my graduate training and am registered with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences while I accumulate the supervised clinical hours required for full licensure. All of my clinical work is reviewed with a licensed supervisor, which means you get two clinicians thinking about your care instead of one.
How do we get started?
Reach out by phone or email and we will set up a free 15-minute consultation. It is a low-pressure conversation about what brings you in, how I work, and whether working together would be a good mutual fit.
Do you take insurance?
I accept some insurance plans and also work with clients on a private-pay basis. Coverage varies by practice and by plan, so the consultation is the fastest way to sort out what applies to you.
Good Faith Estimate: Under the No Surprises Act, clients who do not have insurance or who choose not to use their insurance have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate of expected charges for mental health services. You will receive a Good Faith Estimate before beginning services, and you may request one at any time. If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you may have the right to dispute the bill.
Do you offer online sessions?
Yes. I see clients online anywhere in California, and in person in Sherman Oaks, Burbank, Pasadena, and Glassell Park.
How long does therapy usually take?
It depends on what you are working on. Some people come in with a specific, contained goal and finish in a few months. Others stay longer because the work keeps opening up. We will talk about it openly as we go rather than leaving it unspoken.
Do you work with parents and children together?
Often, yes. Depending on the child's age and what is going on, sessions might be with the child, with the parents, or some combination. We decide that together.
